American Horror Story: Apocalypse officially hits the halfway point and the fifth episode proves things just keep getting better.

Last week, we realized that the crossover was more ambitious than expected and on the latest episode we see an escalation of power clashing for the title of Supreme. After returning Madison and Queenie to the living world, Michael assumes (as well as the warlocks) that he might be the Alpha that was once considered to be a myth. With the witches aware of his power and the flashbacks continuing, there’s a lot to address. Let’s just get right to it!

Please note: There are spoilers ahead if you are not caught up on the series.

Cordelia receives a touching Fiona-esque moment

There were multiple comparisons or statements about Fiona in this particular episode, but the moment that hit hardest came from a scene with no dialogue. Stevie Nicks began singing “Gypsy” to Misty’s return, while Cordelia was shown realizing that her own power is fading with the rise of a new force. Having this awareness that she may have “peaked,” she glances around the room at Michael feeling mighty and you can read it all over her face that she’s recognized her time could be up.

Of course, she feels fueled in the end (thankfully) but the scene crafted a wonderful parallel to Fiona watching Stevie perform “Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You” by mirroring the former Supreme. If we learned anything from the mother/daughter characterization, it’s that the Goode women are unapologetically magnificent.

Misty is back

In an interesting turn of events, Michael’s last test regarding the seven wonders was to use his Descensum to pull Misty day from the underworld. It has never been done before, but Michael took on the task by deciding to accept her necessary challenge. Obviously he found success, but Misty became instantly aware that he has connections to the darkest of evils she has ever felt.

Misty’s reunion with her coven was more than excellent, but my next concern is that Michael will want to take out the witch who embodies the purest of magics. At least the witches (minus Nan, Fiona, and Marie) are reunited and showing solidarity against a common enemy.

Constance returns next week

American Horror Story: Apocalypse is easily the series’ most ambitious season yet (as we’ve mentioned before), but the preview for next week’s episode contains some of the most anticipated scenes with Constance Langdon. Jessica Lange is set to reprise her role as the iconic season one character to shed light on her grandson, who is the spark of the end of everything.

It will also be nice to see Vivian Harmon again, but we are all wondering just what to expect from the unmeasurable talent of Lange this time around.

A Montgomery connection

When Cordelia gave Madison the task of going to the Murder House, it was the perfect idea. Not only is Madison one of the strongest witches in the coven, but her personality is the only one able to handle the devious spirits of Murder House.

For years, there have been fan theories about Madison being an actual descendant of the Montgomery family that built the Murder House. This could be the potential confirmation we’ve been curious about since the Coven season. If so, this will easily be a major nod to fans who have analyzed each season and another creative way to bridge the seasons as a cohesive story.
