Harry Potter fans can’t imagine the film saga without its three main actors. But recently, one of the stars shocked fans by revealing they almost left the series after the fourth installment.

Rupert Grint opened up to The Independent that he was not entirely sure he could continue on playing the role of Ron Weasley in the film adaptation of Harry Potter, having severely struggled through the completion of Goblet of Fire. The actor’s main concern surrounded his having recently gotten through his GCSEs, or General Certificate of Secondary Education.

Grint admitted he was forced to ask himself what he was doing with his life and whether future plans with the film series was truly what would be best for him in the coming years. After four years of being internationally known for playing Harry Potter’s best friend, the Hertfordshire native began to long for the ability to live a normal life.

After this tension had built up for some time, the actor reveals that he seriously considered quitting the saga altogether. Although Grint had always pondered the idea of becoming a world-famous actor, he admits he had never truly viewed it as a life goal and only became attached to it as filming of the series progressed.

Despite Grint never quite going into detail surrounding why exactly he chose to stay in this role, it has been heavily speculated that his friendship with co-star Daniel Radcliffe played a large role in him continuing his commitment.

The two actors certainly became extremely close over the decade-long film saga, with Radcliffe being a source of constant support to Grint alongside Emma Watson.

The actor has most certainly been on his way in Hollywood since the Harry Potter series ended back in 2011. Most recently, he teamed up with fellow Hertfordshire native Ed Westwick for the crime comedy-drama Snatch, which first aired in March of 2017.
