Adelita’s master plan finally comes together on Mayans M.C., as she exposes her identity, network, and complicated history.

The Mayans M.C. takes a backseat in the “Cucaracha/K’uruch” episode, as Adelita (Carla Baratta) takes over. Honestly, the struggle between Los Olvidados and the Galindo Cartel may be the primary focus through the first seven episodes anyway.

Just as Adelita’s history is revealed, the layers to EZ’s (JD Pardo) onion get peeled back one at a time. It turns out he’s connected to Adelita in ways he doesn’t yet know, and his father Felipe (Edward James Olmos) will soon have some ‘splainin to do.

The duplicity continues

One of the most amazing things about Mayans M.C. is the complexity of the writing. Just when narratives and twists and all angles are figured, Angel (Clayton Cardenas) figures how to twist the narrative. Keep in mind he’s a Mayan working for the Galindo Cartel while working covertly for Los Olvidados against his own M.C. and the Cartel, because this gets deep.

Angel goes to the M.C. leadership to reveal the tunnel they found, making it seem like he’s potentially working for the M.C. again, and throwing Riz (Antonio Jaramillo) under the bus. Like an addict, Angel can only go so long without his drug. He gets a text message of a crown, which is almost certainly from Adelita about Miguel’s incarceration. Checkmate perhaps?

Urine trouble now

The connection between roaches and this episode could be related to an alternate definition of dirty. Or maybe the insignificance of cockroaches. In fact, both Angel and Miguel experience the same creature mere moments apart. Angel at his trailer. Miguel in lockup, but with an extra bonus of a man urinating into a plastic bottle nearby and spraying Miguel’s cheek a bit. The symbolism is clear.

Meanwhile, the M.C. holds council about a run and about Galindo being in lockup. Tranq (Frankie Loyal) thinks more manpower is required at home, and Riz (Antonio Jaramillo) is voluntold to stay. Make that four members of the M.C. Bishop (Michael Irby) currently doesn’t trust wholeheartedly.

As EZ gets ordered to detail the bikes, Coco (Richard Cabral) introduces Leti (Emily Tosta) to the crew. Bishop asks Chucky (Michael Ornstein) if it’s the same girl from before, and suddenly Coco is off the mole radar and not linked to Adelita. There is, however, someone else who is linked to Adelita.

The connections are becoming clearer

“I’m just a girl, Ignacio. A girl who also lives with ghosts.”

Adelita surprises Felipe at home. Earlier in the day, she was with EZ and Angel traveling into the U.S. They talked about their mother’s urn, and Angel thinks it’s “creepy AF.”

When Adelita sits down at Felipe’s table, she opens up fierce. “I’m just a girl, Ignacio. A girl who also lives with ghosts.” She pulls out a torn photo, the same old photo Felipe has shown Jimenez (Maurice Compte). It’s from her father, and she got it from a box hidden in an old heating vent. The same vent in which she hid while the cartel slaughtered her father, mother, and baby brother.

He realizes she’s Pedro’s kid, and she lays it all on the table. She links Angel and EZ to the cause, makes it clear the meeting wasn’t random, and goes into her story. Her father traveled from Mexico to Venezuela in 1988, and in 1994 Galindo’s henchmen kicked down their doors to hack the family into pieces.

Before decapitating Pedro, the man in charge said Pedro was betrayed by the “sacred trust” of a partner. She naturally implicates Felipe, but he shows her the whole photo where they’re standing on decapitated heads. Uncertain of Pedro’s fate, Felipe says it could be the person who took the photo. That’s when he shows her another photo with Rodrigo, the bishop with whom she conspired previously.

Adelita is playing chess, not checkers

The earlier text with a crown is fitting because Adelita has moves planned out well ahead. While Emily (Sarah Bolger), Devante (Tony Plana), and Dita (Ada Maris) wait for Miguel to get released, and Miguel is protecting his culo from muscle-bound cholos who he considers cockroaches, Adelita is setting up a meeting. With Miguel. In the basement of the Calexio facility.

After he protests the drug setup and the “torture” his family has endured, she snarls, tells her family’s history, and lays out her plan. It’s not revenge. It’s cooperation. Miguel offers a subsequent protest, but she counters by suggesting she’s no worse than nun killers. Ouch.

To sweeten the offer, she phones in the order to detonate bombs destroying a poppy field, a refinery, and distribution hubs. All owned by Galindo. He is not impressed but changes his mind when the screen shows all his operations. She could shut down everything.

BOLO yes, BOLO no

Jimenez is being taken off the EZ case, and his boss has a new point man. Despite warnings regarding EZ’s safety, the BOLO goes out for EZ’s arrest. The M.C. is concurrently on a gun run for the SOA, and Jimenez gives EZ the heads up before tailing his boss out of the office. The M.C. is subsequently pulled over by cops.

To save the crew from a gun bust, EZ speeds away after kicking an officer’s car door. He eventually gets stopped – long after the M.C. and the guns are clear – and takes a beating. A later tongue-lashing from Bishop, however, is more severe and places EZ’s membership in jeopardy.

Just as EZ is losing his pound of flesh, Jimenez is busting into Lincoln Potter’s headquarters to inform them of Galindo’s Calexico detention. The BOLO gets waived and Jimenez appears to be back in the game after taking his own professional beating.

Coco yes, Coco NOOO!

Wishing a better life for his daughter, Coco has to settle on putting her up with his mother for the time being. Grandma isn’t happy about the lack of affection. Upon his departure, grandma takes the money Leti received from Coco and suggests earning more with Leti’s “tight little twat.”

It’s becoming more clear why Coco’s childhood was so dysfunctional. Blood and crazy runs deep, however, and Leti, wishing to implicate her grandmother, headbutts the toilet multiple times. Straight Liar Liar.

After Leti kicks her own ass, she calls Chucky, who brings her to the clubhouse, where Coco sees her and peels out on his motorcycle. Moments later he’s LAPD’ing the door, storming into the bathroom, and Oedipus gender-swap, choke-drowning his mother in the tub.
