On the latest episode of The Flash, the team focused on capturing Cicada. Without any potential leads, Team Flash contacts the DC Universe’s best detective for assistance.

When The Flash Season 5, Episode 3 begins, the team is still hard at work searching for Central City’s newest villain Cicada (Chris Klein). He made quite the impression on Team Flash, disabling them with a magic dagger that can dampen the team’s metahuman abilities. As a result, they’re left without a solution to the Cicada problem.

To uncover Cicada’s location, Team Flash decides to consult one of the Multiverse’s Harrison Wells. They don’t go to Harry from Earth-2 or the ones they’re familiar with. The team actually consults the Counsel of Wells. The counsel’s leader convenes with Team Flash but refuses to help. He does, however, offer them help in a different form.

The overly obnoxious Wells informs Team Flash that he’s sought out the help of the Multiverse’s greatest detective. The team looks at Wells with perplexed eyes, wondering who he could be talking about. Fans who heard Wells talk of the world’s greatest detective assumed he was referring to Batman but those misconceptions were cleared up quickly.

After Wells makes his departure, the detective he was referring to makes the jump through a breach. The silhouette of a caped man entering the gateway gives fans yet another tease of Batman but it turns out to be an alternate version of Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh).

The new Wells introduces himself as Harrison “Sherloque” Wells. He ensures Team Flash doesn’t get his name wrong, emphasizing the difference between how his name is spelled and that of Sherlock Holmes. Sherloque’s pretentious attitude becomes increasingly less subtle as more time passes.

Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) returns to Star Labs shortly after and greets Sherloque as a fellow detective. Sherloque can’t believe Ralph is a detective and scoffs at the notion. It also didn’t help that an unflattering image of Ralph at a crime scene was turned into a viral meme. Ralph still wants to team up with Sherloque to find Cicada but the latter rejects his offer.

The majority of Team Flash head off with Sherloque on their first hunt but Caitlyn and Ralph stick around a work on a mystery of their own. Caitlyn has been searching every avenue for some clue of how to bring Killer Frost back. She learned that Frost existed since she was a child, which drove Caitlyn to seek out her father. Caitlyn’s mother told her that Thomas died, but after vibing his death certificate, Caitlyn witnessed her mother forging the document herself.

To look into the matter further, Caitlyn and Ralph visited Carla (Susan Walters) at Tannhauser Industries. In their meeting, Caitlyn brings up the death certificate in a vague manner. She asks Carla about the matter and she quickly dismisses the comment. Carla urges Caitlyn to drop the subject matter then casually tells Caitlyn and Ralph to get out.

On the way out, Caitlyn and Ralph take a detour to the facility’s file storage. They break into the room and pull Thomas Snow’s file. Caitlyn discovers various clues towards her father’s last known days and none of them point towards his death. It takes Caitlyn a while to piece together all the clues but she eventually discovers a hidden message, telling Caitlyn to find him.

Back on Team Flash’s end, they move forward with Sherloque’s clever plan to find Cicada. All the steps sound legitimate and everything appears to be going right. Barry and Nora run into a bit of trouble, with an explosive trap set for them. Barry saves Nora and then captures the perpetrator, David Hersch. They assume he’s Cicada but find out shortly after he’s not the man.

When Sherloque learns the culprit isn’t Cicada like he has been on numerous other Earths, he’s perplexed as to why Earth-1 would be any different from the rest of the Multiverse. At that point, Nora tells him the truth about traveling back in time and causing a divergent history to take hold.

Before Cicada arrived, the ripple effect caused by Nora’s presence was minimal. Now, however, it appears as if Nora has completely altered the timeline. The biggest evidence of this is Cicada’s true identity.

In any case, Team Flash has to search for a new suspect who isn’t an alternate version of Hersch. The team begins their search shortly after only to find an alert called in by Cecile and Joe. Cisco vibes to their house with Barry in town but his breach is interrupted by Cicada.

Cisco and Cicada then fall into a half-open breach into an unknown place. The rest of the team have to locate Cisco before Cicada kills him but can’t figure out where he’s at. Luckily, Sherloque’s deductive skills prove useful.

Sherloque deduces where Cisco is at and sends Barry to rescue Cisco. Barry arrives to find his powers have been dampened again. He attempts to fight Cicada with his bare hands but gets dismantled quickly. Nora races in to save him, throwing an explosive fuel cell at Cicada.

The villainous Cicada reflects the bomb, causing it to explode in Cisco’s face. He appears to be vaporized with Cisco’s goggles and jacket lying on the floor in a pile of ashes. Cicada standing proudly atop them jumps into the sky, rocketing off.

Unbeknownst to Cicada, Cisco and Nora had a clever plan. They trick Cicada into believing the death was real by having Cisco breach out instantly before the explosion. He used a breaching device to accomplish this feat while his powers were out of commision.

In the end, Team Flash survives another fight without losing a pivotal member of the team. Although, Vibe may be out of commision until they can uncover Cicada’s true identity and bring him to justice.

As for Cicada, we can see the more human side of him as he visits his daughter in the hospital. The doctor caring for Cicada’s daughter reveals that she won’t wake from her coma. She urges Orlen aka Cicada to stop his crusade and stay at his daughter’s side, but he’s dead-set on his mission, even if a grave wound will bring about his own demise.
