One of the greatest bands in the world, Queen, will rock theaters this weekend with Bohemian Rhapsody.

The Freddie Mercury and Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, arrives in theaters this weekend. It’s a magical rock ‘n’ roll ride with a brilliant cast, but its journey to become a film, just like any band, came with many complications. Band mates fight and breakup, Bohemian Rhapsody went through casting issues and directors stepping down. Moviegoers, however (especially fans of the legendary band), will be glad the movie carried on. Bohemian Rhapsody, a biopic with the stamp of approval by the band, is a work of art.

Bohemian Rhapsody kicks off seconds before Queen takes the stage at Live Aid. Just as he’s about to be revealed, the film cuts to take audiences back to where it all began, with a very green and hopeful Mercury in 1970.

After their singer quits the team, Brian May (Gwilym Lee), Roger Taylor (Ben Hardy), and John Deacon (Joe Mazzello) take Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek) on as the new lead singer. It’s a bumpy, but steady ride to the top the minute he takes the mic. As you all already know, it is Queen’s unique sound and adventurous music that makes it stand out from the rest.

The movie isn’t without any faults. The cliché plot of Mercury learning to accept and love himself is heavily highlighted in the film. There are also the usual band issues and sketchy music managers we’ve seen many times. But if this is truly how Freddie Mercury (born as Farrokh Bulsara) was, and Queen did face those problems, should we really be calling this flaws? After all, it’s not like it takes away from the over all presentation or incredible musical numbers.

It all leads up to Queen’s emotional reunion at the 1985 Live Aid concert, where one of the movie’s most emotional performances is given.

Rami Malek has been praised for his beautiful portrayal of Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury. Don’t get me wrong, Malek shines and is a total scene-stealer, but a round of applause goes to everyone else involved, particularly Queen’s other members. The band’s chemistry is the most fun, they aren’t afraid to call each other out and make fun of one another.

Sure, Freddie Mercury may have been the most recognizable name in the band, but he wouldn’t be anything without his band-family. In the end, Queen is one, and Bohemian Rhapsody proves this in the movie’s final minutes.

In fact, the best scenes are when the band is together. A scene that features the band crafting the masterpiece we all know and love as “Bohemian Rhapsody” is amazing. It’ll have you grinning ear to ear.

As for the flow of the story, any complications that went on behind-the-scenes are not noticed in the movie. The scenes and performances are stitched perfectly, it goes to show how hard work pays off when you don’t rush to get it done.
