Roswell, New Mexico: Jeanine Mason talks her first lead role
Jeanine Mason has landed the lead role in Roswell, New Mexico. She discusses what it was like taking on this role has her first ever lead role.
Grey’s Anatomy fans will remember Jeanine Mason as DeLuca’s ex-girlfriend, Sam. She left that series after landing her first ever lead role, playing Liz in Roswell, New Mexico. While many will remember Sheri Appleby playing Liz Parker in the 90s series, Mason’s character will get the book’s original surname.
Yes, she is Liz Ortecho, a descendant of illegal immigrants (although she is a legal citizen herself). It adds an illegal alien storyline into the literal alien storyline of the show, pulling back some of the elements of the books. The main difference is that Liz isn’t in high school anymore. This is set 10 years later, which showrunner Carina Adly MacKenzie explained.

Character development is certainly something important for Jeanine Mason. Coming from theater, she’s used to know it all for the character, but that’s not the case in TV. However, it sounds like Liz will consistently learn and develop, which is essential for any good main character.
