10. The O.C.

Episode: Season 1, Episode 11, “The Homecoming”

What’s on the menu: Sure, The O.C. does Chrismukkah in style, but have you ever spent Thanksgiving with the Cohens and co.? It’s rather rare to catch the Cohens preparing a home-cooked meal in their kitchen as they’re more of a takeout and bagels and schmear kind of family. But for Ryan’s first holiday in Newport, the notoriously lousy in the kitchen Kirsten decides to whip up dinner… which causes Sandy, Seth, and Seth to step in and help with the meal.

However, it almost doesn’t matter what the Cohens put on the table in “The Homecoming” since the drama of the occasion overrides any of the (potentially) delicious sides and starters. As the guests begin to trickle in, the you-know-what hits the fan. Jimmy and Rachel are set up, Seth has to choose between Summer and Anna, Ryan and Marissa run off to Chino to visit Trey, and Julie and Caleb show up right on time to really get the party started.

Why we’re thankful for it: Since The O.C.’s end in 2006, it has seemingly been rendered underrated in the shadow of other nostalgic legacies. Despite being one of the best teen shows of all time and a massive pop culture phenomenon, its peers get the constant outpouring of love. But episodes such as “The Homecoming” prove how grateful we should be for The O.C. and its tandem capacity to entertain and warm the heart. Besides, there’s nothing like a Cohen-Cooper throwdown to realize how normal your family is.
