Die Hard

There is a lot of debate surrounding whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas movie. In fact, Bruce Willis even weighed in this summer during the 30th Anniversary of the film, saying it wasn’t. However, I stand firmly in the camp that it is a Christmas movie, and you should definitely add it to your list of movies to watch this holiday season.

Also released in 1988, Die Hard takes place over the course of Christmas Eve as terrorists take over Nakatomi Plaza, leaving New York police officer John McClane (Bruce Willis) to single-handedly take them down.

While not a traditional Christmas movie, the only thing really Chrstmas-sy about the movie is the setting really. It is one that millions of people faithfully watch every year. I know it’s one that I pop in while I’m knitting presents for people. And if you just go looking, you can find so many memes about it being a must watch holiday movie.

If you like action movies, Die Hard is for you. Bruce Willis gives a career-making performance as McClane, and the late, great Alan Rickman cements his movie career as Has Gruber, the head of the terrorists taking over the building.

Again, not a very family friendly movie, there are some f-bombs and a lot of violence, but if you’re looking for something that is basically the polar opposite of It’s a Wonderful Life, add this movie to your lineup!
