Everyone has their favorite Christmas movies that they watch every year. Here are three movies you should consider adding to your tradition this year!

You know the drill. Thanksgiving ends and the Christmas movies begin to play. Everyone has their favorites. You can find A Christmas Story running almost constantly between Thanksgiving and Christmas. And you can count on It’s a Wonderful Life to come on sometime Christmas Eve.

But what about some not so traditional Christmas movies? Here are three that are part of my tradition every year, you should consider adding them to yours!

Scrooged

Hitting theaters in 1988, Scrooged is a modern retelling of Charles Dickens’ famous story A Christmas Carol, starring Bill Murray and Karen Allen. While not the most family-friendly holiday film, it is definitely a funny one. And one that my husband and I watch every year as we wrap presents on Christmas Eve.

What is unique about Scrooged is that they are basically doing dual work with A Christmas Carol. Murry plays Frank Cross, a television executive whose network is putting on a live televised production of the Dickens classic. And while we watch the production rehearse and air the production, we are also watching Frank live the tale as he is visited by the three ghosts and taught the true meaning of the holiday.

The spirits who visit Cross are all played by popular comedians of the time, including Carol Kane, who you may recognize from The Princess Bride and more recently The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. And Cross’ love interest is played by ’80’s sweetheart, Karen Allen.

While a lot of the movie can seem pretty dated, a lot of the jokes still stand up, and the film is still really fun to watch. And like most Murray movies, there is a lot of heart and you may find yourself wiping tears off your cheeks by the end.

This year is the 30th anniversary of the film, so it’s the perfect time to add it to your list and give it a watch.
