Brace yourself for the horrors that await the Nightflyers, an epic sci-fi horror series based on the novella by George R. R. Martin that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the moment it begins.

The Nightflyer awaits. The highly anticipated series premieres tonight, December 2, on SYFY, with all ten episodes being released over the next ten days on all of the network’s platforms. An outstanding looking production, with a story that will make even the most hardened veterans of horror cling to the edge of their seats, Nightflyers keeps you guessing and wondering what will come next.

Based on the novella by Game of Thrones author George R. R. MartinIf you have the impression that the series will be anything like the HBO drama then stop. It couldn’t be far from it. Now I don’t mean that in the sense that you should not tune in to watch the sci-fi horror. More the storytelling is completely different. There is certainly no dragons aboard the ship.

But you should certainly set some time aside to watch Nightflyers. While the style might not be Game of Thrones. You should know that George R. R. Martin wrote the novella because he was told that you could not write a successful sci-fi horror. Martin went out of his way to prove them wrong, and succeed.

Set in the year 2093, aboard the Nightflyer. The most advanced ship that has ever been constructed. The crew and a team of scientist set out on a journey to make first contact with alien life. Their mission will see them travel further than anyone who has ever gone before, but from the moment their journey begins it is plagued with disaster and horror.

The team and crew begin to question not only one another, but themselves as well as theses terrifying and violent events occur. Only to soon realize that the horror isn’t what lies ahead of them, but is what is already aboard the ship.

During NYCC this year, Hidden Remote was given the opportunity to screen the very first episode of Nightflyers and what an episode it was. From the very opening act, I was sold. In fact, this was my reaction at the time.

Creating a perfect blend of two genre’s you normally would not see together. The horror aspects has everything that horror fans have come to love. With all of its blood, guts, and gore, and even creepy children, because every horror needs a creepy child. Mixed with the sci-fi elements of space, advanced technology, and powerful humans with advanced abilities. There is something here for everyone.

The only drawback about Nightlfylers will come from those who have read the novella. If you have, and are expecting the series to stay true to the original writings of Martin, you may be disappointed. I won’t give away spoilers but the novella and the TV series are not the same.

Nightflyers is inspired and based on the book, but it has rather taken elements from it and adapted the story to make it work for TV. This should be 100% understandable, considering the novella is less than 200 pages.
