Thus far in our 25 Best Christmas movies, most of the picks have been modern films. However, sitting at #15 is the classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

There’s no season like the Christmas season, especially for movies. Each year more is released and everyone has their favorites. All of us at Hidden Remote do as you can tell by our countdown. As noted, the list has almost exclusively featured modern movies but the #15 pick is taking it back, with none other than Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Based on the iconic song, the stop-motion animated TV special premiered in 1964. The film has been a staple in many households and is beloved by kids and adults alike. Since its premiere, the red-nosed reindeer and his band of misfits have become a tradition for many of us.

Even though there have been a few reboots and even a sequel, the original is one we all know and love. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer premiered Dec. 6, 1964, on NBC where it played annually for seven years. Then in 1972, the special began airing on CBS and has aired on there ever since. Originally, it aired only once but now airs multiple times throughout the season.

Most of us know the plot of the film, but this is for those who don’t. The special follows Rudolph, a red-nosed reindeer who is labeled a misfit and his journey to accepting himself. During his journey, we meet other “misfits” including Hermey, Yukon Cornelius, and the misfit toys who also want to be accepted for their differences.

Will Rudolph and the others get their happy ending? You’ll have to watch and find out!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is such an iconic Christmas film. There’s no denying that especially with a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In recent years, people have been ripping the film, especially on Twitter. With criticism of Santa, the treatment of Rudolph and much more, the film clearly isn’t for everyone.

Regardless of many, it holds a special place in their hearts. No matter what, it’s hard to deny the impact Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer has made. It originally began as a song and then a film but has since grown into much more. Rudolph is featured in everything from gift wrap, stuffed animals, clothing and much more.
