Young Justice: Outsiders returns with three new episodes that focus on the new characters and they bring sone trouble to New Genesis.

“Private Security” is the first of the three new episodes this week. It picks up shortly after where “Eminent Threat” left off. Artemis is attempting to help Halo figure out who she really is. Meanwhile, Conner has Brion Markov staying with him and M’gann.

Despite most of the characters dealing with the aftermath of Dick’s previous mission, he’s moved on and gets himself in some trouble when he offers to help on a Bowhunter Security job. Although, it gives Will Harper the time to call Dick out on mishandling the situation. There’s still room for growth with Dick and it looks like we’ll see that develop more.

What I enjoyed about this episode is that we didn’t need to see them focus on the Markovian issue too much. The ones that they rescued had reasonable screen time, and when Dick and the Harpers save the other kids, we only see the outcome.

We also get a look at Zatanna getting to spend an hour with her father. I wish we would have seen more of that. While they’re together, the show chose to focus more on Halo and Artemis just hanging out nearby.

The next episode,  “Away Mission,” takes us to New Genesis, which is a big change of pace from the events going on back on Earth. We get a look at Orion as he goes up against the Hive. With DC having a New Gods movie in the works, this is actually a good primer if you don’t know too much about them.

Even though a team of heroes is needed on New Genesis, the Markovian storyline continues. It’s actually nice to have that through line instead of setting it aside and returning to at a later time. The Young Justice team, lead by M’gann, gives us a chance to focus on more of the characters. In fact, we get a look at her brother, who is the one impersonating Orion.

M’gann handles the situation with her brother, but is unable to get through to him. He kills some of the meta human teens without hesitation. M’gann tried to fight a mental battle with him, but it fails and even if she doesn’t want to use her powers to her full extent anymore, she just might have to at times to avoid another situation like this one.

The final episode released for the week is “Rescue Op” and it begins in Al-Qawiya. We’re introduced to the Black Spider, who makes a comment about whether or not he needs better quips (poking some fun at Marvel’s Spider-Man).

The show cuts back to Happy Harbor to pick up with Forager. We find out that Halo has a lot of knowledge about New Genesis. We also find out that Brion’s sister also has the meta gene. Dick brings up Black Spider while they discuss his sister with Doctor Jace. This brings things full circle with the opening scene.

Not only does it bring things full circle, but it brings Ra’s al Ghul into the picture and he’s a villain who always ups the ante. Brion, Halo and Forager leave Happy Harbor and as soon as they leave, Barbara lets Dick know Halo’s real identity. As soon as those three left, something bad was bound to happen. Ra’s doesn’t fight them himself, but he’s behind the scenes keeping an eye on everything. Halo resurrects herself just in time for the other heroes to come save them.

Ra’s orders them all to leave before the debacle gets any worse and he is honest with them about not leading the League anymore. What this episode did do though, is introduce two other members of the Bat Family. Talia is shown holding a son, presumably Damian Wayne, and one of the masked ninjas is regaining his memory and mutters “Grayson” as Dick leaves. It’s likely that this is a version of the Red Hood.

The little tidbits that Young Justice: Outsiders throws in are a nice touch. I don’t think it’s quite as good as the original two seasons, but you can tell what it’s out to accomplish. I look forward to seeing what comes nest.
