Make no mistake, the welcome at Winterfell is not very welcome. There is definite animosity involved.

The obvious portion of brief preview that everyone is going to hinge on is the interaction between Sansa and Daenerys. Like a good princess, Sansa awaits to greet the incoming royalty. Never mind the whole twisted tale of where Jon Snow fits into all of this, with his roots as a Targaryen and Stark loyalty. Also, ignore the whole “he’s banging his aunt on his father’s side”-aspect. The real royalty, at the moment, is Daenerys.

Sansa accepts her coldly with “Winterfell is your’s, your Grace.” There are a ton of little tidbits to be taken away from the brief scene.

First and foremost, the exterior is important. It’s abundantly clear Brienne of Tarth does not approve. She almost looks appalled at the reality of it all. This is the most profound example of RBF in the entire Game of Thrones timeline. Additionally, if it weren’t for their aristocratic upbringing, neither Sansa nor Daenerys would have handled the situation as well. There is no doubt whatsoever the invitation is insincere, and the acknowledgement is a matter of formal cordiality. Even Jon Snow appears to have a problem with it all.

The entire situation is unnecessarily tense because it’s Jon Snow’s to give away, and he obviously has already.
