Roswell, New Mexico has premiered! The pilot episode introduced the main characters, set up the story, and left viewers with five big questions.

The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico has invaded our televisions and, according to fans live tweeting during the series premiere, it’s a hit! Did you tune in to catch the series premiere of the new sci-fi, alien drama? If not, please note there are spoilers ahead that will ruin major plots! Go watch and then rush back to discuss the pilot’s biggest mysteries.

Roswell premiered about 20 years ago, so Roswell, NM is really for a new set of eyes. To provide something new and appeal to today’s audience, the new series made several adjustments, providing twists and changes from the original series. The most notable difference between  Roswell and Roswell, New Mexico is the diversity, but there’s plenty more.

Of course, this doesn’t mean fans of the original aren’t able to watch and enjoy the fresh, modern take on the alien love story! Thanks to the pilot episode the CW sent our way, we were able to preview the series and give you all a sneak peek at what to expect.

More from CW

Assuming you have basic knowledge about the series, or at least watched the pilot episode, here are the biggest questions we have:

Will Max ever get to drink his milkshake?

Yes, clearly this question is just for fun! But can the man catch a break to sit down and enjoy a milkshake in this town?

First, Max (Nathan Dean Parsons) uses the milkshake as an excuse to see Liz at her parent’s diner. The two catch up a bit, but the reunion is short lived once someone shoots at the diner, killing Liz (we’ll come back to this in just a minute!). Then, towards the end of the episode, Liz brings Max another milkshake, to make up for the last one. Did he even get to take a sip? Nope! Someone get Max a drink, ASAP!

Note: Was it a smoothie or a milkshake? Now I can’t remember.

Again, this one is just for laughs, let’s get to the real questions…

Why did Liz leave?

Liz Ortecho (Jeanine Mason) wanted to escape her town, as well as the racism and mistreatment her family received after the death of her sister, Rosa. Basically, leaving Roswell was a clean slate for Liz.. or so she says. After we meet Michael (Michael Vlamis) and Isabelle (Lily Cowles), we learn Isabelle may have had something to do with Liz’s decision to leave.

Isabelle may not have wanted Liz and Max to get to close, fearing Max would reveal the truth about their identities. That seems like too much work, though, could there be something else? If that truly was Isabelle’s only reason, it didn’t exactly work. Liz is back and Max has told her all about him, Isabelle, and Michael. Well, nearly everything…

What really happened to Liz’s sister, Rosa?

The final scene of the Roswell, New Mexico pilot left us questioning everything! There’s a lot of focus on Rosa Ortecho, Liz’s sister, from the start. Viewers learn Rosa died in a car accident that also killed two others, Rosa was reportedly intoxicated. Consequently, though very wrong, the small town hates and blames the Ortecho family.

The Ortecho’s also have to deal with immigration laws and racism, two topics Roswell, New Mexico isn’t afraid to speak up about. It’s great to have a series take on these issues head-on.

Going back to Rosa… as it turns out, there’s more to the accident than we were made to believe. While speaking with Max, Isabelle asks if he told Liz everything. He cuts her off, telling Isabelle that Liz can never know what truly happened to Rosa.

What did really happen? Clearly, it was more than just an accident. What are your theories?

Max’s hand print on Liz

The attack at the diner kills Liz instantly. Without giving it any thought, Max resurrects her. This, however, leaves a shiny hand print on Liz’s chest. I have to admit, I thought the sparkly, purple print was a bit over the top. And trying to hide the blood with ketchup, Max? No. Putting my feelings about this aside, the question is — will Kyle Valenti (Michael Trevino) tell anyone about Liz’s mark?

We learn the glowing print will vanish soon, but will it be before Kyle confronts Liz about it? Though if Kyle cares about Liz as much as he claims to, he won’t tell anyone. I hope he doesn’t, because as much as I want Max and Liz to be endgame, I think a love triangle would be fun to see in the meantime.

Next. The obsession over You on Netflix is real, but should it be?. dark

More twists?

The diversity, LGBT community representation, and social commentary are substantial additions to the reboot! Fans are curious to learn what else Roswell, New Mexico has in store in the coming episodes as far as twists and secrets the town has been digging up! What did you think of the pilot episode?

Roswell, New Mexico airs Tuesday nights at 9/8 p.m. central only on the CW.
