Ghostbusters movie helmed by Jason Reitman inspired by Stranger Things?

Ghostbusters continuity intact with the 80s originals as Jason Reitman is slated to direct the new flick. Sources say teenagers will be cast in the project.

Ghostbusters will have an actual sequel that will continue from the previous 80s flicks. News broke recently via Deadline that Jason Reitman would be set to helm the project. There are no plot details regarding this movie, however ,Hollywood Reporter columnist Borys Kit tweeted that there would be “4 teens: 2 boys, 2 girls, per sources”.

That being said, I couldn’t help but to mentally flashback to that scene in Stranger Things where the boys showed up to school as the only ones in costume, but at least they were iconic ones, right? It does make sense since they’ve been battling some supernatural force in their small town along with dealing with a possessed friend that’s not unlike Dana/Zuul in the original Ghostbusters.

With retro-nostalgia being the way it is, catering to some of us Generation X’ers, I couldn’t help but to think the studios would be going the direction of 80s nostalgia in a similar fashion as Stranger Things. I could see them pulling it off as the Netflix series does appeal to a massive audience.

Jason Reitman tweeted “#GB20”, citing ,”Finally got the keys to the car”, but will the teenagers involved in the movie be old enough to drive? I couldn’t help but to think of a quirky coming-of-age bit involved in getting their drivers licences prior to being able to get behind the wheel of the iconic vehicle. Of course, there could be an anxious one in the bunch that pre-maturely test drives the Ghostbuster mobile and the shenanigans would commence.

This Ghostbusters project will be not associated with the 2016 all-female cast, so there will be no ties to that film. Deadline mentioned that the movie got mixed reviews and didn’t do well at the box office due to its high production cost.
