Another iconic team up may be heading to the CW’s Arrow. Laurel Lance/Black Siren will soon be leading a Birds of Prey inspired episode.
It was announced by TVLine that a Birds of Prey team up may be coming to CW’s Arrow. Not much else is known about the team up yet other than the fact that it will feature Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy). It’s only fitting since in the comic books Dinah Laurel Lance, aka Black Canary, is the leader of the Birds of Prey.
So this leaves us with the question of who will potentially be joining Laurel in this team up. There are several options, and some are more likely than others. Some potential candidates include the following:
- Dinah Drake
- Felicity Smoak
- Helena Bertinelli
- Sara Lance
- Zoe Ramirez
Now admittedly, the problem with many of these options is that they are no longer on the show. But who knows, stranger things have happened and some of those actresses may be more than happy to guest star in a Birds of Prey themed episode.
It also leaves us the question of whether this Birds of Prey episode is necessarily set in the present or whether it may take place in the flash forwards or at least connect to the flash forwards. After all, we do see both Dinah Drake and Zoe Ramirez as Black Canary in the future. So who is to say that isn’t part of their Birds of Prey team up? Maya/Blackstar does not seem to be a fan of vigilantes otherwise with her fighting skills she could be a potential candidate as well.
Helena Bertinelli/Huntress was one of the original members of Birds of Prey and it would be a joy to have her back for this. However, it would come down to whether the Arrow team would be able to get the actress back for the episode but I’d love to see that happen! Same goes for Thea Queen who is no longer on the show but would be a welcome return should Willa Holland be so inclined.
Sara Lance, while no longer on the show, is on its sister show Legends of Tomorrow so I imagine that would be a much easier deal to work out if the writers wanted. The most likely options to join the team up however are Felicity Smoak, who essentially fills the role of Oracle for Arrow, and Dinah Drake who is the current Black Canary.
One name has been intentionally left off this list and that’s Barbara Gordon. Given the fact that the CW has just green-lit the Batwoman pilot (with Kate Kane) it is unlikely that any other member of the Batfam will be joining the CW any time soon.
And if a Birds of Prey episode isn’t enough to get you excited, it was also teased that we are going to be getting an episode dealing with Black Siren’s backstory on Earth-2. This will tie into her potential redemption arc and per showrunner Beth Schwartz:
“We’ll get to see what happens in her overall redemption arc — whether she really did turn over a new leaf, or is she still the same evil Black Siren we met last season.”
So Laurel fans can rejoice because it sounds like there will be plenty of new content coming your way very soon! Hopefully, this means we’ll finally get a glimpse of what her life was like on Earth-2, her relationship with her Oliver, and what lead her down her dark path.
What are you most excited for in a Birds of Prey episode and who do you most want to see join this team up? Do you think the team up will be in the present timeline or the flash forward? Let us know!
Arrow returns this Monday at 8pm EST on the CW.
