Marcus went on a crazy acid trip in Deadly Class Season 1, Episode 5. How much of what happened will he remember and trust? Benjamin Wadsworth shares all in this postmortem exclusive interview.

Before I get into this, I want to put out an immediate spoiler warning. There are spoilers from Deadly Class Episode 5, “Saudade.”

Deadly Class got the deadliest yet but what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? That may not be the case moving forward, but it really will depend on the amount Marcus remembers and believes after that crazy acid trip. Benjamin Wadsworth breaks down the acid trip and what it means moving forward.

Hidden Remote: So, that was most definitely crazy! What was it like trying to film the acid trip knowing all that CGI would be added in?

Benjamin Wadsworth: It was fun and it allowed me to be a little free. I could sit back and just act, allowing the CGI to be added in around me. I didn’t have to worry about what I was supposed to be reacting to for most of it.

HR: What about during the scene with Liam [James, who plays Billy]? Did you know anything that would be in place during that scene?

Wadsworth: Some of it. I had an idea because Liam was on wires or I’d discussed it with Adam Kane [executive producer and director on Deadly Class], but not all of it. Those were some fun scenes to shoot.

I can’t wait for the fans to see it all come together. It was so much fun to shoot.

HR: I’m sure the fans will love it. So much of it was like the comics.

Wadsworth: This was one of those episodes that Rick [Remender] wanted to keep close to the comics. We have a duty to that fan base and having Rick there has been great. He shares what he thinks should happen and I can go to him with my thoughts.

I’ve never seen an adaptation where the comic creator has been so heavily involved. It think that helps Deadly Class stand out from the rest.

HR: The fan base is immense. I remember it at NYCC and I felt like a fish out of water going into that panel. I’ve had to very quickly catch up with the comics.

Wadsworth: For those who haven’t read it yet, I’d say watch first and then read. See what we do with it and then compare the two.

HR: There’s certainly been the chance to go into the characters more. We’ve had the chance to see Marcus’ need for friends more. Has he found the friendships he’s longed for so long for?

Wadsworth: Oh yeah. He’s just a kid and having friends is all he’s wanted. He’s been so alone since his parents died. His rats friendship group has helped, but now he’s found this inner circle with Saya, Maria, and the others.

HR: The ones on that acid trip with him. How much will he remember from that acid trip and how much does he believe was real?

Wadsworth: He doesn’t know! At one point, he thought he was stuck in time for millions of years. That seven-hit trip was crazy. He’s going to have to figure that out along with the audience. What was real? What wasn’t? That’s all something you’ll find out in the next few episodes.

HR: The part that stands out is Chester. For me, the moment Chester was in the alley with Chico’s body told me that moment was real.

Wadsworth: Yeah? You’ll see.

HR: Finally, because I know you don’t have a lot of time. So much happened and this is really a jumping point for so many other storylines. What are you most looking forward to fans seeing in the next episodes?

Wadsworth: Just how crazy this now becomes. I can’t wait for the fans to see the second half of the season. The s**t has got real and it’s going to get big very quickly.
