Vikings Season 6: Is Freydis coming back from the dead?

Freydis’ storyline didn’t end so well in the Vikings Season 5 finale. However, could the character return in Vikings Season 6? It certainly seems possible.

Vikings Season 5 didn’t give Freydis the happy ending she was possibly hoping for. However, actress Alicia Agneson has confirmed she’s coming back for the sixth season. How could the writers work that in?

Considering that this is a historical fiction series with limited supernatural elements, raising Freydis from the dead doesn’t make all that much sense. And Freydis is definitely dead considering Bjorn and Hvitserk found her dead body on the bed next to the bones of her son.

So, how is it that Agneson is back on set? Well, the clue may be in her dark hair.

During the Vikings Season 6 trailer, there’s a snippet of Agneson with her dark hair facing Ivar. Stop the trailer at 12s to get the shot, clearly showing the characters in Russia, which is where the sixth season is taking us.

Could this be Freydis back from the dead? Probably not. Chances are that Agneson is playing another character that looks very much like Freydis, possibly as a way to show Ivar’s continuation into darkness and mental instability. After all, he’s a crazed tyrant always looking for those who are working against him and he’s certainly delusional at times.

Ivar may end up finding his past comes back to haunt him. He’s killed people for revenge many times and those deaths have sometimes played on his mind. Freydis’ death certainly would have done as part of him likely did love her. She encouraged him to declare himself a god and gave him some hope, even if it was false hope.

It’s also possible that this new character will become Ivar’s new love interest. She could be just as calculating as Freydis was as a way to gain a better life than the one she currently has. However, could this one be Ivar’s actual downfall?

Vikings Season 6 will have 20 episodes and is the final season of the series. It’s time for the beginning of the end.
