The race for the Best Actress crown is the tightest it’s been in the past five years, with each of this year’s nominees having a semblance of a shot at earning the prestigious Oscar. Winning an Oscar is not the “end all, be all” of an acting career, but it must feel great to have your talents being rewarded onscreen in front of millions of viewers from around the globe. It’s great for both exposure and a physical reassurance of one’s talents.

However, not everybody has been fortunate enough to win the big one and that’s a reality many great actresses face, despite the hard work that has gone to get to that point in their careers. Of the near-100 actresses that have managed to win the Oscar, there are countless others that have not won or even been nominated.
