13: Robin Wright

Oscar nomination(s) – 0

Robin Wright is a bit of an interesting case when it comes to this list, seeing as how she is mainly known for her work on the Netflix television series, House of Cards.

In fact, it’s easy to call her role as Claire Underwood the defining role of her career. She has received unanimous praise for her performance throughout the series and has garnered a Golden Globe award and 7 Emmy nominations for her work on the show. Her work is so beloved that it often overshadows her career in films, which shouldn’t be thrown to the wayside.

Wright’s firm and strong performance in the show make her incredibly whimsical performance in The Princess Bride all the more jarring to watch. The same actress (granted, the two are a couple of decades apart from each other) can ham up the screen with a hilariously endearing performance and turn around to give the opposite of that, establishing Wright as an underappreciated actress in her own right (pun not intended).

Her film performances in the likes of Moneyball, Everest, Forrest Gump, Unbreakable, and Blade Runner 2049 add to her already-stellar resume and prove that Wright belongs on the Oscar ceremony just as much as her more film-heavy counterparts.

Her performance in Blade Runner 2049, in particular, could’ve easily been nominated for Best Supporting Actress, but as of yet, no Oscar nominations for the hard-working actress. Oscar or not, she continues to be one of the most talented women working in the industry today.
