This week on The Gifted, sacrifices are made for the future of the Mutant Underground.  Here are the five takeaways from the Season 2 finale!

The last episode of The Gifted brought a turning point for Lorna and Andy involving their time in the Inner Circle. After tensions ran high, Lorna finally had to admit that she was working against Reeva to Andy but she also explained to him the harm she did to innocent Mutants like the Morlocks.

This led to Lorna connecting Andy and Reed on the phone because Andy was still having doubts about whether his family thought he was a monster. Reed confessed his own murder to Andy and this settled his anxiety about coming home. Thus, bringing all the Mutant Underground back together.

This week, worlds collide as everything comes to a head between all the chess players. Jace finally comes face-to-face with John in a vicious fight. Reeva takes the battle to the Mutant Underground’s hideout. Esme has a confrontation with her sisters and her guilty conscience.

And finally, an unfortunate sacrifice is made that will change the show forever. It’s an emotional episode that might leave some begging for a series renewal.

1. A dash of foreshadowing

The finale kicked off with some subtle foreshadowing with a flashback involving the Strucker family. The scene takes place after a massive tragedy called 7/15 (the X-Men version of 9/11) where many humans were killed in a mutant attack. The scene shows the fear and devastation that triggered the human animosity towards the mutant race.

The interesting part about this scene goes beyond just foreshadowing but it represents a mirror reflection to events that will come later. Reed is motivated to help protect not just his family but also his country. And after a long day of watching the tragic events on the news, he tells Kate that he believes he should transfer to Mutant Crimes Division. He explains, “This is the fight of our generation.”

The scene serves as a template to show how far his character has come and teases where he might be going next. We get many glimpses of these flashbacks throughout the episode involving Reed just doing what he believes to be right for his family.
