Game of Thrones Season 8 trailer: A hint at Jaime Lannister’s fate?

There have been plenty of questions about Game of Thrones Season 8. After getting a look at Jaime Lannister in Northern armor, does the recent trailer also foreshadow his fate?

Game of Thrones Season 8 is almost here. The last six episodes will bring the end of the story, something we’ve been craving for years but yet not wanted at the same time. With the trailer finally revealed, there are plenty of questions. One of those surrounds Jaime Lannister.

We’ve already had a look at him in the armor of the North. I speculated whether that meant he had formed an allegiance with Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen or he was just trying to make it to Winterfell alive. The trailer shows a quick clip of him in battle and it looks like he may be on the side of the North. However, it’s a statement for him that may foreshadow what’s to come.

Bear in mind that this is just a theory and a lot of my theories come back to Valar Morghulis. Before I get into the theory, I want to make sure you’ve had the chance to see the trailer and get the chance to click away if you’re not looking for potential spoilers — I know some of you consider theories partially spoilery!

Around the one-minute-20-second mark, Jaime states “I made a promise to fight for the living. I intend to keep that promise.” If he’d said this in the first season, I wouldn’t have believed him. However, since meeting Brienne of Tarth, Jaime has become loyal to causes he believes in — and he’s risked his own life for the sake of his younger brother, Tyrion. So, I believe that he means this statement.

And he may end up having to put his life on the line. Is it possible that Jaime will become one of the casualties in the war, turned into a wight at a later stage? Normally, this would mean no longer fighting for the living, but what if he could fight against the change into a wight?

Fighting against becoming just a drone of the Night King isn’t going to be easy but we have seen Uncle Benjen since — he managed to fight against the White Walkers. But wasn’t it the Children of the Forest who helped Benjen survive? Benjen shared the full story with Bran but it wasn’t the Children of the Forest who were solely responsible for him not fully turning into a wight. It was the dragonglass.

With the dragonglass, Bran could offer some sort of hope for anyone going through the change to become a wight. He could help prevent Jaime making the full turn. So, he would be able to continue fighting for the living, keeping his promise to the very end.

Alternately, it could just mean Cercei has sent a raven to Winterfell ordering Jaime to return. Considering Cercei is his queen, she could order his death if he doesn’t return. Tyrion, Jon, Dany, and others would all want to know what his choice will be and the clip could be from this.

It could also be from the very first episode. Once at Winterfell, there’s a high chance that Jaime would be imprisoned by the Winterfell guards and Jaime would have to explain himself, making it clear that he’s only there to help.
