Does Captain Marvel have a love interest in the movie?

Does Carol Danvers have a significant other in Captain Marvel? Who is the love interest in the movie?
Please note: Haven’t seen Captain Marvel in theaters? Spoilers ahead!
Captain Marvel is now playing in theaters and being judged hard by critics and trolls alike! But one thing that isn’t being discussed as closely as other topics is the love interest in the movie. Or, in this case, the lack thereof. That’s right, there’s no boyfriend, girlfriend, or significant other in Carol Danvers’ life. Why not?
Well, for starters, why does there need to be one? Most romantic Marvel Cinematic Universe relationships don’t work out, anyway. Just take a look back at Jane Foster and Thor. Failure! Tony Stark and Pepper Potts are meant to be, but their happy ending (hopefully they get a happy one) didn’t come without its many complications.

Then, there’s Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, who didn’t even get a first date. Things aren’t going any better for him and Sharon Carter, either. And what is even going on between Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner? Oh, and let’s not get started on Clint Barton and his secret family. Yeah, I think Carol (Brie Larson) is going to be just fine solo.
Instead, Captain Marvel features a much more important relationship: Friendship. In Carol’s life, there’s only her bestie Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) and Maria’s young daughter.
In an interview with News.com, Larson explains the lack of a love interest and why friendship was so important to feature:
"“The great love story in this movie is her best friend. That’s her long lost love. And I can’t think of anything that is more powerful to me than the girlfriends in my life. To get to imbue what that experience is really like [in the movie] felt powerful.”"
We hear ya, Larson! Love interests come and go (as the MCU has proven), but besties are here to stay! Tony and Rhodey, Thor and Loki, Captain and Bucky (BFF triangle with Sam), and so on! Who’s your favorite BFF duo in the MCU?
Captain Marvel is in theaters now.
