HBO has released a trailer for Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 5. Here is our preview for the second to the last episode of the HBO hit series!

We’re heading into the home stretch with only two episodes left in the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. With the Battle of Winterfell now in the rearview, all sights are pointing to Cersei and King’s Landing. Even though there’s a new mission to prepare for, the next heir to the Iron Throne continues to become more complicated.

The winners in Winterfell barely had time to say goodbye to the dead before leaving for another fight. Jon, Daenerys, and their surviving forces decided to turn their focus to King’s Landing to take out Cersei and the Golden Company. Before they left Winterfell, they had a short celebration where Daenerys realized that Jon already has a loyal group of supporters. Whether he wants the Throne or not, people would probably pick him over her.

The realization that Jon is a Targaryen didn’t sit well for Dany but the truth is finally spreading. Jon shared the news with Sansa and Arya after he swore them to secrecy. With Sansa’s distrust of Dany, she let the news slip in the hopes that it will continue to spread, blocking Dany’s path to the Throne.

Before the group left for King’s Landing, there were a few goodbyes, which is presumably the last time fans will see certain characters in the series. Arya rejected Gendry’s proposal as she could never envision herself a wife to a Lord. Jon bid farewell to Sam, Gilly, and Tormund. He also asked Tormund to look over Ghost as he thought the direwolf should stay in the North. It would have been nice of Jon to acknowledge Ghost a little more during their goodbye considering their journey thus far. Hopefully, Tormund treats the direwolf better than his previous owner.

Everything went downhill once the group arrived in King’s Landing. First, Euron killed Rhaegal in a shocking sequence of events. Now down to one dragon, Dany decided to fly away from the attack. Her fleet was destroyed and her forces are diminished. To make matters worse, Missandei was taken as a hostage and then killed despite Tyrion’s pleas to his sister. Fully enraged, Dany now has more motivation to kill Cersei even if that means destroying all of King’s Landing.

Tyrion and Varys were already questioning Daenerys and whether she is fit to be the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Now that she is in full rage-mode, their concerns might grow. Dany and Grey Worm surely have a new motive in killing Cersei after what she did to Missandei. Dany still has one dragon left and even though Euron successfully killed one, it looks like he might not be prepared for what’s to come.

The Episode 5 preview also reveals that Jon, Davos, and their forces have arrived to assist in the fight. To successfully take out Cersei’s army, they will need to enter the gates. Jon will probably be against the idea of putting innocent citizens in the line of fire but it seems that Dany is ready to let the whole city burn.
