The CW kept things short and sweet at the Upfronts during the week. Here’s a roundup of everything that happened during the CW Upfronts, so you don’t feel like you’ve missed out.

With just a 45-minute presentation, The CW kept things as short and sweet as possible. The Jonas Brothers opened the show and the cast of Supernatural closed it, which is fitting considering the network’s longest-running series is coming to an end during the 2019-2020 season. Here’s a roundup of the events from the CW Upfronts on May 16, so you don’t feel like you’ve missed out.

The new shows on the network

More from CW

Earlier in the day, The CW shared its fall 2019 schedule. Batwoman and Nancy Drew are the two new shows taking up spots in the new schedule — you can see the full schedule at the bottom of this post — with Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene getting a midseason spot.

Batwoman opened up the stage to the CW shows, with Ruby Rose coming on the stage to introduce her fellow cast members. The first CW show set in Gotham City will take up Sunday nights with Supergirl, giving us an all-female superhero start to the week (or end, depending on whether you think Sundays are the start or end of the week).

After a brief chat with the All American chat, Kennedy McCann took to the stage to introduce Nancy Drew. If you love Riverdale, I get the feeling you’re going to adore this adaptation of the beloved female detective. McCann joked about taking over the “murder capital of the CW” from Riverdale.

Lucy Hale didn’t take to the stage for Katy Keene due to a “fashion emergency,” but there was a 30-second clip.

Confirmation of no Netflix/CW deal renewal

The big news from the CW Upfronts 2019 was that the CW and Netflix deal was officially coming to an end. This had been reported a day earlier and has led to many people wondering what this means.

Netflix will now need to bid for the rights to stream the shows on its platform, however, that could be difficult. WarnerMedia had previously hinted that the Warner Bros. shows wouldn’t remain on Netflix because it wants to have exclusivity on its upcoming streaming platforms. The likes of Riverdale, the Arrowverse shows, and Supernatural will likely eventually move off the service.

Considering how some shows on the network have only been renewed because of the Netflix deal (Riverdale after the first season, Dynasty and All American recently), this is going to be a blow. However, The CW is looking to boost its CW Seed more, praising its multi-platform system. It will also be interesting to see if there are changes to the CW app.

The CW fall 2019 schedule

The CW Upfronts is a time to show off the schedule to encourage advertisers to put their money into the network. So, what can we expect?

There are some big (and slightly surprising) changes to the network. Charmed will move to Friday nights as the lead-in for Dynasty. I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing as Fridays don’t seem to be the dreaded “death slot” anymore. We just have to look at how Dynasty has been renewed for a third season, Bones and Supernatural moved in and back out of that slot over the years, The Blacklist has picked up by being on Fridays on NBC, and Last Man Standing succeeded on Fridays for FOX.

All American is moving to Mondays and being paired with Black Lightning, while The Flash and Arrow are paired. Out of all the Arrowverse shows, Legends of Tomorrow is being held for the midseason.
