When is the next Game of Thrones novel from George R.R. Martin out?

Our Game of Thrones watch on HBO may be over, but we at least still have the books to look forward to! When is George R.R. Martin releasing the next novel?

Talk about dedication! It’s been nearly a decade, yet George R.R. Martin is still not finished with the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series (the books Game of Thrones is based on) The Winds of Winter. Not only that, but The Winds of Winter is meant to be the sixth book in what Martin has said will be a series consisting of seven novels.

Martin is not in any rush. While most movie producers and novel authors give fans a release date whether or not they are finished with the project, Martin does not. The genius who Game of Thrones fans owe everything to, has stated he will not be setting a release date until he has finished the book.

We can’t be too mad, though, or even impatient. After all, we have all now seen what happens when you try to rush a work of art. Needless to say, six episode was not enough to wrap up the Game of Thrones TV series as many events were either rushed or completely forgotten about.

Martin has revealed many events that we’ll read about in The Winds of Winter at several readings and interviews. In fact, seven chapters of the book are available to read on his site. Many character fates and stories are similar to what we saw in Season 8, but rest assured book readers still have a lot to look forward to.

According to Vox, only the first three books were back to back, but the fourth, A Feast for Crows, took five years to write, while the fifth, A Dance with Dragons, took nearly 6 years. The time to finish The Winds of Winter is the longest it has taken, and there’s no end in sight.
