More from CW

As for the plot of Season 5 of The Flash, the story picks up shortly after the big reveal of Season 4 wherein Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy) revealed her true identity. She’d been masquerading as random strangers within Central City throughout Season 4, but came forward during The Enlightenment.

Nora didn’t necessarily join Team Flash, she merely helped Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) stop the satellite set to destroy the city. It’s after this act that Nora comes clean with her identity, revealing that she is Iris (Candace Patton) and Barry’s daughter from the future.

In Season 5, Barry and the rest of Team Flash have to deal with the stark reality that a speedster from the future has jumped backward in time. Longtime fans know the repercussions of time travel are troublesome and Nora’s case isn’t the exception.

What’s of greater significance is the change she wishes to enact. Time travelers generally have a specific purpose for venturing back in time — usually to prevent a particular event from happening — or changing the course of events altogether — Nora is no different. We won’t spoil her reason for journeying to the past but let’s just say the timeline hinges on Nora’s actions.

Lastly, don’t be surprised by Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) having a less prominent role in Season 5. Jesse L. Martin, the actor who portrays Detective West on The Flash, suffered a back injury during the hiatus between seasons, forcing Martin to be seated in most of his Season 5 scenes. He’s also noticeably absent from several episodes due to the leave of absence.
