Arya sailing West of Westeros

Sansa’s ending was fitting. I loved that Sam put forward the idea of a democracy for the whole people but it was laughed at. And Bran sitting on the Iron Throne his own throne was, well, fine now that I get the poetic justice of it all – it doesn’t matter who you are or what you were born into.

What did shock me a little was Arya’s storyline. She decided to sail off West and look for whatever is West of Westeros. In a way, it shouldn’t have been surprising. This was something hinted at way back in the sixth season. She’s always been an explorer.

I would love to see a Game of Thrones spin-off with Arya exploring the seas. I just hope she’s taken people who aren’t quite like the Dothraki or the real-life Vikings, who would rape, murder, and pillage.

Jon’s lineage never really mattered

At the very end, it didn’t matter who Jon Snow really was. Those letters that Varys had been sending out never really mattered. Nobody brought them up. In fact, Sansa only wanted Jon back because he was family. She never even bothered pointing out that he was the rightful king that whole time.

It’s a fitting ending for that when you really think all about it. It took six seasons for us to get the confirmation that Jon was Aegon Targaryen. It then took another season for Sam to find out and another season after that for Jon to find out. After all this time, there was a thought that it would lead to something big but sometimes, a birthright doesn’t matter.

Yet, who he was did actually matter. It was because of who he was that led to Dany acting out more. She lost her child, her best friend, and her love in one fell swoop. All that together – shortly after losing Jorah – had tipped her over the edge. And she was worried that others would learn the truth about Jon and overthrow her.

Maybe if she never found out – if nobody had ever found out – the story could have ended slightly differently. There could have been hope. And that’s why Jon’s lineage did actually matter, just not in the way many of us expected it would have.
