James McAvoy: 10 greatest movies of all time
By Ivan Mora
10. Submergence
Original Release Date: Submergence premiered in theaters on April 13, 2018.
Box Office Earnings: While the film never received a domestic box opening, it was more focused on a foreign release that still eventually bombed. The film had an initial budget of $15 million, and while the domestic numbers were never really clear (it displays at a 0.00 on TheNumbers.com ), it wasn’t well appreciated for a movie that debuted to praise at the Toronto Film Festival. It had an International Box Office earning of $679,709.00 dollars barely earning $1 million.

Critical Acclaim: Submergence surprisingly received some nominations for Best Foreign Romance Trailer in the Golden Trailer Awards and Best Film in the San Sebastian International Film Festival. Besides that, it was inconsistent and shaped out to be way too abstract for it to become a true film. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a poor 22% that proves a movie headlined by attractive and noticeable actors doesn’t always strike gold. This film just simply fell short due to missing elements that disappointed its audiences.
About the Role: James McAvoy portrays a hydraulic engineer who has been taken hostage by Jihadist terrorists who claim he is working for British Intelligence. He meets Alicia Vikander’s character and falls in love fighting for his life to get back to her.
Simply the Best: The storyline felt extremely out there to really indulge in a romantic movie. McAvoy tries to show us two sides of his character – one who is a Tom Cruise wannabe MI6 spy trying to stay alive and fight off terrorists and the other side who is an old fashioned romantic. Something about the first task makes it very perplexing to satisfy the romantic drama genre.
