The 100 recap: Who wins between Clarke and Josephine?
The 100 Season 6, Episode 7 gave us Clarke against Josephine. Who would win inside Clarke’s mind?
Despite the last two episodes telling us that Clarke was dead, we found out that she was actually alive. Well, sort of. Her subconscious is still in her mind, which gives us hope in The 100 Season 6, Episode 7.
We were quickly thrown into a range of memories and throwbacks to the past. Whether it was the room she was held in while on the Ark, her dad, or even A.L.I.E., we were quickly given us various memories of the past. That is until she opens a door that she doesn’t remember. And it all leads to Josephine.
The failed mind meld

It turns out that the mind meld has definitely failed. This is something that hasn’t happened for a while, but Josephine has been through it before. As two minds try to share one brain, the body starts dying. By Clarke opening the door, she’s sped up the process.
Now, Josephine needs to wipe out Clarke’s mind to win the battle within. A.L.I.E. knew this was coming and helped Clarke cover up the memory of how A.L.I.E. was removed from Raven back in The 100 Season 4. However, this isn’t going to stop Josephine.
And there’s a catch. Josephine’s drive backs up her subconscious. There’s no way of killing her and Josephine took a sedative. She’s got all night to either kill Clarke inside the mind or find out how to kill her outside.

A few home truths
Clarke’s subconscious comes up plenty throughout The 100 Season 6, Episode 7. One of those moments is when Octavia appears in the pits. Clarke wants to hide, but Octavia throws plenty of home truths her way.
Later, there’s one from Maya in Mount Weather. We get reminders of her time in Mount Weather, Jasper, and much more. One thing I will say for this episode is that it was an excellent way to remind us of everything Clarke had done throughout the past.
However, what it’s all a reminder of is that Clarke is a fighter. She finds a way to control the mind space — it is hers after all — but will it be enough?
Striking a deal for peace?
Josephine follows Clarke to one of the deepest traumas, the time Clarke killed Finn so he wasn’t tortured to death. This is when Josephine has the chance to show Clarke that Bellamy has agreed to work with Josephine’s people. There’s a chance for Clarke’s people to stop fighting, but she needs to stop trying to save herself.
When she does that, Monty pays her a visit. He doesn’t want her to stop fighting, knowing that isn’t better. Okay, so it’s still a part of Clarke’s subconscious, but it’s the part she needs to fight back.
With Josephine gone, Clarke and Monty head into Josephine’s mind space, where 230+ years of memories are neatly organized. That certainly makes it easy to look through everything and find something Clarke needs to beat Josephine.
Monty tries to get Clarke into Josephine’s darkest, most traumatic memories in the hope of controlling her body. While that happens, Clarke learns more about Josephine’s past, which give us the story of the events of Isaac and those who turned against Josephine in the past.
The darkest memory is from before the bombs when Josephine was still on Earth. At first, it’s not clear why this is so traumatic, but a boy killed himself in front of her. While she initially wanted to stay on Earth, it’s no wonder she decided to leave with her family after all. Seeing the memory does exactly what Clarke needs, but Josephine wakes up before Clarke can take control of her powers.
Except, Clarke manages to control her body, sending a morse code message to Bellamy without anyone even realizing she’s doing it, except Bellamy, of course. It’s a short message: ALIVE. Bellamy knows exactly what it means and he’s not going to stop until he gets Clarke back.
