The 100 recap: What happened to Octavia inside the anomaly?
Octavia has to face the events of the past in The 100 Season 6, Episode 9. Meanwhile, Kane faces life as someone else and Bellamy tries to reach Gabriel.
The 100 returns after a week off, bringing us a followup to all those loose ends from Episode 8. How would Kane react to a new body? Would Bellamy and Clarke reach Gabriel? Just what happened to Octavia in the anomaly (and where is Diyoza)? It’s time to find out everything that happened in The 100 Season 6, Episode 9.
Kane isn’t going to blindly follow Simone

The episode does start off with Octavia’s storyline, but I want to touch on Kane’s first. All these storylines are slowly converging, but one of the big questions of the episode was always going to be how Kane would react to being in someone else’s body.
He handles it extremely well and isn’t angry towards Abby like I expected him to be. While he tries to deal with all the scars and different tastes he experiences, he understands why Abby made the choice she did.
However, there’s something else. When Simone visits Kane to see how he’s doing, Kane makes it clear that Gavin (the man he’s inhabited) isn’t “one with the Primes” like she keeps telling people. There’s something Simone is hiding and Kane isn’t going to just roll over and hide it all like Simone’s followers have done.
Raven, who is still angry at Abby for making this decision for Kane, clearly knows who can help uncover the conspiracy. She and Kane are side-by-side when they wake a confused and concerned Indra up from cryosleep.

Indra questions whether it’s wrong to take someone’s life considering everything they’ve done before, but she eventually agrees with Kane that they need to do better. There’s one thing they need to do — destroy all the Nightblood serum to prevent Abby and the Primes from making more.
It’s not just the serum that will be destroyed — more like floated. Kane is going to float himself, too. Abby does get a chance to say a tearful goodbye, as Kane admits that he would have done the same for Abby had the tables been turned. However, he also knows that Abby wouldn’t have been able to live in another body.
With that, Kane is floated.
Octavia faces her past
After coming out of the anomaly, Gabriel manages to get her back to his shelter. When she wakes from her sleep, Octavia admits that she doesn’t remember anything. What could there be to remember? She was only there a few seconds.
But was she? Gabriel points out that Octavia’s hair is clean and possibly longer. Let alone the fact that she’s healed! He wants to help her remember and injects her with a drug made from the trees, which forces Octavia into the pit. She’s forced to face everyone from the past.
The 100 Season 6 has certainly been a season of past mistakes and regrets. In a past episode, Clarke saw A.L.I.E. and Maya. Octavia gets a glimpse of Pike, Bellamy tied up, and many other mistakes she’s made and regrets she has.
Pike wants to know what Octavia wants. After some taunting and reminders of the past, Octavia admits that she wants forgiveness. Is there any chance of that considering everything she’s done, especially the burning of the farm?
It’s not just forgiveness that she wants. Octavia wants redemption.
What is Octavia willing to do to gain that? As a Red Queen version of herself walks into the pit, there are plenty of reminders (and flashbacks) of Lincoln’s execution. However, Octavia refuses to allow Pike to be executed and fights against herself to earn her redemption.
When she wakes from the drugs, she finally knows what she needs to do. It’s time to earn the redemption she’s after.
Bellamy and Josephine find the Children of Gabriel
Finally, it’s over to Bellamy and Josephine, who are heading through the forest to find Gabriel. Josephine continues to make a point that Clarke is close to dying, but Bellamy refuses to let that happen. He needs to get his friend back.
However, the Children of Gabriel are unwilling to listen. When Bellamy makes a mistake on the number of Primes, the Children arrest both Josephine and Bellamy, before radioing through to Gabriel.
It’s a chance for Bellamy and Josephine to further connect, with Josephine admitting that she’s loved Gabriel for 236 years, even if he has been trying to kill her for the last 70+ year. She’s also not so bothered about Clarke using Morse Code. There’s not much any of them can do, anyway.
When the Children realize who Josephine is, they attempt to kill her but Josephine allows Clarke to take over. It’s enough for Clarke/Josephine to get away, heading for Gabriel to help bring an end to the war and stop the Primes. She at least leaves a chained Bellamy with the keys so he can get away, too.
Clarke manages to get a radio message to Gabriel, which Octavia also hears. Things are about to get weird.
Odds and ends:
The 100 writers really thought about body-switching, pointing out that feel and taste will be different too.
Watching Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley together on-screen remains perfect. They have so much chemistry, even when Eliza isn’t Clarke.
I love that Kane and Abby’s goodbye was between Paige Turco and Henry Ian Cusick. While I have nothing against Greyston Holt, this moment needed to be between the two of them. I also love that Indra was there to say her own goodbye after the friendship the two gained in the last season.
