Friends, Pretty Little Liars, and so much more!

Let’s start with the obvious inclusion. Friends is the unsurprising series being added to HBO Max. Netflix managed to arrange a deal for the streaming rights to the series for 2019, but it was always clear that all 236 episodes were going to leave the streaming service for WarnerMedia’s offering.

WarnerMedia wants to offer shows exclusively streaming on its service. It makes the most sense financially.

And Friends isn’t the only show heading there. Remember how Pretty Little Liars is leaving Netflix later this month? Well, that’s because it’s going to head over to HBO Max (not Disney+ or Hulu like I’d considered earlier due to its ABC connection).

For fans of the 90s series Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, you’ll want a subscription to this new streaming service. All episodes will be available exclusively on the service.

HBO Max will also be the home of a number of other network TV shows, those that are produced by Warner Bros. TV. The CW’s Batwoman and Katy Keene will only be available through this streaming service.

You’ll remember that Netflix and The CW’s deal wasn’t renewed earlier this year but that all current programming gets to remain on Netflix under a legacy deal. That may change in the future and it’s not clear yet if those programs will also be available through the WarnerMedia streaming site. We may see the likes of Supernatural, Riverdale, and all other Arrowverse shows available across two streaming platforms from spring 2020.

There are also plans to have shows from TNT, TBS, and more make it to the streaming platform.

Greg Berlanti and Reese Witherspoon have recently signed with Warner Bros. Studios. Both will bring movies to the streaming service. As for more Max Originals, read on…
