4. David Jason’s Secret Service
Fans of A Touch of Frost and Only Fools and Horses will want to check out this three-part series. Secret Service sees Sir David Jason head to all parts of the UK and beyond, looking into the true stories in spy history. He’ll talk to people and visit the secret places to see the guardians and gatekeepers of the Secret Service.

This is certainly something for all fans of espionage. It’s more on the documentary side, but there is a bit of storytelling involved to set the mood. And who better than Inspector Frost to lead the way?
The series was originally released in 2017 in the UK. It’s now coming to Acorn TV on Aug. 5.
3. Thorne
If you love the likes of David Morrissey, Sandra Oh, and Aiden Gillen on your screens, Thorne is the show to look out for in August. Morrissey is DI Tom Thorne, and the series is based on the bestselling series by Mark Billingham.
The series is set up as three episodes to tell one story, and there are two stories. In the first story, a murderer has killed three women, causing strokes. A fourth woman may be able to help catch the murderer but there’s one problem. She’s suffering from locked-in syndrome. DI Tom Thorne needs to figure out a way to solve the murder.
The six episodes of the series will be available on Acorn TV on Aug. 19.
