The popular cartoon icon Dora the Explorer finally gets the live-action treatment in her very own movie, Dora and the Lost City of Gold! See if you can explore your way to your local theater to check it out!

Given that she’s one of the most recognizable cartoon characters of all time, it’s actually quite amazing that it’s taken this long for Dora the Explorer to jump from television to the big screen, but that all changes this weekend with the release of Dora and the Lost City of Gold, a  followup to the original television show, Dora the Explorer

Now you don’t have to be some expert map reader to guess that this movie’s journey is definitely geared to a younger audience. The trailers alone have promised a plethora of childish jokes with a healthy side of flatulence mixed in for good measure. It’s mostly for kids, with maybe a few adults wanting to check it out to see what Danny Trejo sounds like voicing a tiny monkey.

That’s right. Macho tough guy Danny Trejo is voicing Boots, which, for those old enough to read this article without sounding out the big words, might make this whole movie worth the price of a movie ticket. But that’s not all. In a head-scratching casting decision, Benicio del Toro voices the infamous Swiper the fox. Look, I’m okay with telling a fox not to steal things, but if that fox sounded like Beneicio del Toro? Yeah, I’d let that fox do whatever he wanted.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold has a pretty self-explanatory title. There’s a city of gold that’s lost somewhere just begging to be found! Luckily, Dora is on the case, which to her is ten times more exciting than going to that dreadful place called high school.

But will the movie itself be any good? Well, there’s only one way to find out! Take out your handy dandy map and find the closest route to your nearest cinema. We hope the movie is a fun experience. We recently talked about how Dora and the Lost City of Gold might pave the way for other Nickelodeon franchises to finally be brought to life. Because we all know how much we want a Wild Thornberrys live-action adventure!

If you have a young kid in the house, chances are you want to take them to see Dora and the Lost City of Gold rather than something like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood or Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, but that’s just a guess. Either way, have a great weekend watching movies!
