We’re heading to Salem for Mysteries Decoded Season 1, Episode 6. Think you know the mystery behind the 1692 insanity? Think again!

The Salem Witch Trials is something we all learn about in history class. Even those of us outside the U.S. learn about the insanity of the 1692 trials that saw more than 200 people accused of witchcraft and 19 of them executed for those “crimes.” However, there’s much more to the history than we learn, and that’s something Mysteries Decoded goes into during Episode 6.

In the simplest of terms, in 1692, a group of teenage girls were suffering from illnesses that nobody could understand. Considering the lack of medical knowledge and equipment at the time, people believed in superstitions, and the illnesses had to be witchcraft.

Unsurprisingly, many people who were accused were those who were outcasts. Some were old, some practiced “white magic,” and others just weren’t liked. But this isn’t about those who were accused. Mysteries Decoded is looking at why a group of teenagers would suddenly start suffering from similar illnesses. Why would the people start accusing others of witchcraft?

In the promo, we get a hint. Something is showing traces of arsenic, which would definitely explain a lot of the girls’ inflictions. Nobody at the time would really understand that.

Will we finally start to understand more about the Salem Witch Trials? I know we won’t get all the answers, but there’s hope we’ll find out something new—just to understand something about the girls and what they were suffering from during the trials.
