Batwoman has finally premiered, and we sat down to chat with show star, Meagan Tandy, who plays Kate Kane’s former flame Sophie Moore on the series!

Have you watched Batwoman yet? If not, tread carefully, there are spoilers below from the series premiere. The latest addition to The CW’s successful DCTV line-up has finally arrived. Batwoman follows Kate Kane, an out lesbian superhero who takes up the new mantle of Gotham’s protector after Bruce Wayne disappears.

We got the chance to chat with another one of the show’s stars, Meagan Tandy (Teen Wolf, Survivor’s Remorse, UnREAL). Tandy plays the role of Sophie Moore, the ex-girlfriend of Kate Kane, and the second-in-command of the security firm known as the Crows.

She talks with us about her love of performing stunts, the relationship between Sophie and Kate, and what’s to come this season!

Hidden Remote: For starters, I just wanted to say that I was a big fan of Braeden on Teen Wolf, so I was excited to see you get cast as Sophie on Batwoman!

Meagan Tandy: Aw, yay! Thank you so much. I loved playing Braeden. Honestly, I miss that character so much. But what’s cool is there are some wonderful similarities between her and Sophie. So, I’m kind of fulfilling that dream of wanting to continue that story in some way. It’s awesome.

More from CW

HR: You had to do a lot of stunts as Braeden. Did that help prepare you to take on the role of Sophie?

MT: Oh, absolutely. It’s always been one of my favorite things to do. I do have a stunt double, and her name is Rochelle Okoye. So if there’s anything crazy that I can’t do, they’ll have her come in because she’s the professional.

But the good thing is I love my fight sequences, and I got to do so much of that on Teen Wolf, and I’m also able to carry that into my character here on Batwoman. It’s so much fun.

HR: I watched the premiere earlier, and I was super impressed! I can’t wait to see how all the storylines develop.

MT: Thank you! It was so much fun to do that. It was a workout. I was like, “wow, I just got the best exercise ever.”

HR: What was it like working on a set composed predominantly of other women?

MT: I love it. As crazy as it sounds, it fits in my brand. I have the Meagan Tandy Foundation, which serves girls ages 12-19. It’s all about empowerment, inspiration, and motivation for today’s female youth. To be on a project that is geared specifically toward that has been the icing on the cake for me. It’s truly such an honor to be a part of this.

HR: Kate is an out lesbian, and we know Sophie is her ex-girlfriend. Was being able to play a character in the LGBTQIA+ community important to you?

MT: Absolutely. I feel like it’s incredible that not only do we have another female superhero on television right now, but we have one that is a lesbian. I can’t wait until the day people look at a show like this, and it can just be a regular thing. The fact that Sophie gets to be her counterpart in the emotional love story adds to my purpose of wanting to be an actor.

HR: That’s one of the great things about DCTV is its high level of inclusivity. It’s not something we see that often in the comic book world, unfortunately, at least on the big screen.

MT: I know, it’s great that The CW wants to take on something that isn’t done very often.  It has made it so exciting to be a part of the network.

HR: Speaking of DCTV, are there any other characters you hope you get to work with at some point?

MT: Gosh, there’s so many. But I’ve always been an avid Batman fan. Even though in our world of Gotham, he’s been missing for three years, it would be amazing if Sophie and Bruce Wayne could have a scene together. I would love that so much.
