If you’re looking for a somewhat spooky series to watch this Halloween, then give What We Do in the Shadows on FX a try as it could be a new Halloween favorite.

Every year, there are a handful of new TV shows to watch during Halloween. Some are scary, while others are just fun. Most of these shows premiere in the fall so it’s the perfect way to overlap the season with the holiday. However, there is one show that premiered this spring and it’s a must-watch this Halloween season.

Based on the film of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows is the perfect show to watch this Halloween. With only 10 episodes in season 1, it’s a quick show to binge, too. If you’re looking for something fun to watch this holiday season, look no further.

Let’s get into some of the reasons why What We Do in the Shadows is such a great watch!

Of course, it would only be right to start off with the premise of the series. What We Do in the Shadows follows 4 vampires: Nandor, Lazlo, Nadja, and Colin along with Nandor’s familiar as they live their lives in Staten Island. Everything is going great until their Baron (their leader) comes to visit and reminds them that they’re supposed to taking over the world, not living their best life. After that, shenanigans ensue within the group and it’s a wild ride.

The major reason to watch this Halloween is that the series follows vampires. However, not all of them are vampires in the traditional sense. Nandor, Lazlo and Nadja are all traditional vampires as they suck blood and have special powers. As for Colin, he’s an energy vampire, meaning that he sucks the energy out of people by basically boring them until they lose all of their energy.

Another reason to watch is that the show is both scary, but also funny. The vampire genre as a whole can go either way, but What We Do in the Shadows hangs in the line between horror and comedy. Throughout the series, there are also little nods to other vampire films, including Twilight. Similar to Twilight though, What We Do in the Shadows brings back the vampire craze, but without all of the fangirls.

I’d be remiss to not mention the writing as the show has some of the funniest and wittiest dialogue of a series this year. While the show is known for other things, the writing doesn’t get nearly enough credit. Considering that Jemaine Clement wrote a handful of episodes, it should come as no surprise, since he co-wrote the original film.

While fans of the original film can watch the show, it’s also easy for people who haven’t to get into the series. It doesn’t feature the same characters as the film, but rather showcases a similar concept.

Overall, the series is well-paced, features spot-on casting and Season 1 ends on a pretty satisfying note, but still leaves rooms to speculate for what’s to come. What We Do in the Shadows might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s worth a sip.
