Though it appeared promising, Doctor Sleep failed to wake up a tired box office this holiday season. Here’s how well the horror movie and others did over the weekend.

Despite being highly anticipated since the release of its first trailer, Doctor Sleep was welcomed with a lukewarm reception. Positive feedback grew over the weekend and the horror movie now has a score of 74% from critics at Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences are praising the movie with a 90% score. Still, the reviews didn’t seem to help much, as the movie only gathered $14.1 million over the weekend, settling for No. 2 after Midway.

The war film accumulated $17.5 million, winning Midway the No. 1 spot at the box office. With a budget of $100 million, however, it does have a long way to go to make a profit. The budget for Doctor Sleep is unknown.

At No. 3 we find John Cena’s Playing with Fire, which collected $12.8 million. The total may not be so high, but with a budget of $29.9 million, it’ll make a profit in a matter or weeks. Following close behind the comedy, is Last Christmas at No. 4 with $11.6 million.

More from Box Office

Critics have been hating hard on the holiday movie, handing it a rotten score of 41% at Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences, however, seem to be enjoying it, as the score from them is 81% so far. Though it only made $11.6 million over the weekend, its budget is $25 million, and with the holiday season in full swing, it’s likely to make a profit soon.

That concludes the new box office additions. Other interesting finds are Joker at No. 6 with $9.2 million. The Addams Family adds another $4.2 million to its total. And Jojo Rabbit tries to enter the top 10, but sits at No. 11 with $3.9 million.
