8. The Scandalous Lady W (2015)

Original Release: August 17, 2015

Ratings: According to an article written by The Guardian around the time of the film’s premiere, the movie managed to rake in 2.5 million viewers. Those are relatively impressive numbers. When Dormer starred in this movie, she was well-known. Her addition to the cast likely drew in many fans.

Critical Acclaim: Most critics were less sure of their feelings regarding this “scandalous” television film. The story of the Worsley marriage is a complicated one. Several critics felt the film stumbled in its attempt to portray a sexually liberated woman.

About the Role: Seymour Worsley née Fleming, became “Lady Worsely” after marrying Sir Richard Worsley in 1775. Their marriage was a terrible affair for both parties involved. It fell apart quickly. Worsley forced his wife to take part in strange and sometimes sinister sexual activities. The movie is based on a book about their story written by Hallie Rubenhold.

Simply the Best: Natalie Dormer is one of those actresses who is incredibly well-suited to period pieces. Something about her type of beauty and delicate features makes her perfectly cast in many notable historical roles.

Even if the movie is a little odd, it’s worth watching for the costuming and production design alone. You’ll see in the above video just how stunning Dormer appears in her red costume contrasted with the stark white room. Her acting is as always, strong and understated, as is appropriate in this role.
