Watchmen: All the clues leading up to that big Dr. Manhattan reveal
The attack on Christmas Day
Looking back on the flashback of the night, Angela was attacked by men with Rorschach masks in her home; there is something that was left unexplained. Angela throws Cal out of harm’s way and hides in the kitchen where she is eventually shot and at the point of passing out.
The man with the mask hovers over her body and has the upper hand, but she wakes up in the hospital. Who stopped the man in the Rorschach mask from finishing what he started? Something tells me that Cal did more than hide from the intruders.
Will tells Angela that Dr. Manhattan is pretending to be a human
When Will tells Angela that he thinks that Dr. Manhattan is pretending to be human, Angela says that it’s not possible. She claims that Dr. Manhattan did not have the power to change his appearance to a human. But Will counters that Dr. Manhattan was able to reach skyscraper heights and was able to duplicate himself. It’s almost as if the writers were trying to explain how Dr. Manhattan’s transformation would be a possible and logical outcome.
Angela tells Cal that Will thinks Dr. Manhattan is a human
The conversation that Angela has with Cal about Dr. Manhattan is a repetition of what Angela has been mindlessly trying to reassure anyone who even suggests that Dr. Manhattan could be human. Cal adds that it’s impossible because Dr. Manhattan is still on Mars and then asks if they are safe. At the time, it seemed like Cal was questioning whether the calvary was going to attack them again. But now, it appears that what Cal was really asking was if their Dr. Manhattan secret was safe.
Cal’s explanation of life after death
The Abar children have a heated argument during breakfast on whether their Uncle Judd went to heaven. Cal interjects to remedy the situation and gives an atheistic approach to life after death. Dr. Manhattan is a man of science who had reached god-like proportions and in all his infinite knowledge, would dismiss religious beliefs as false.
Laurie comments on how hot Cal is…twice!

Laurie saying out loud that Cal is attractive was for me just a sign of having good taste. But now that we know that Cal is really Dr. Manhattan it’s safe to say that she was attracted to more than just his looks. Laurie’s subconscious sensed the presence of the blue being she loves.
Cal believes that Laurie Blake wants to help Angela
One of the most curious parts of Cal’s interaction with Laurie is that he takes away that she genuinely wants to help Angela. Considering how hard Laurie works to implicate Angela in Judd Crawford’s murder, it has always just seemed like she was looking for a murderer or an accomplice. Cal sensed Laurie’s intent because he knows her personally.
Lady Trieu’s Mars transmissions
Lady Trieu’s mobile stations provided critical information on Dr. Manhattan’s location. After transmitting messages to Mars for quite some time, Lady Trieu admits that no one on Mars is listening to these messages. And since Dr. Manhattan surely would have nothing but time on his hands while on Mars, the logical conclusion is that he is not there at all.
