10. Trapped: The Alex Cooper Story

Trapped: The Alex Cooper Story is based on the real Alex Cooper’s book, Saving Alex: When I Was Fifteen I Told My Mormon Parents I Was Gay, and That’s When My Nightmare Began. This film aired as part of Lifetime’s “Ripped from the Headlines” special.

It’s about the horrific abuse Alex suffered after she was sent to a religious conversion house to be “cured” after she came out as gay to her family. Addison Holley, who played Alex in the movie, delivered an excellent performance.

9. Love You to Death

Everyone wanted to cover the Dee Dee Blanchard murder this year between Lifetime’s movie starring Marcia Gay Harden and Hulu’s The Act. Surprisingly, Lifetime’s take on the case was fairly accurate.

Several scenes in the television film also occurred on The Act. Love You to Death changes the character names from Dee Dee and Gypsy Blancard to Camille and Esme Stoller, but the story is the same.

Harden plays the haunting Camille who will do anything to keep Esme close to her, even going so far as to poison her own child to make her believe she’s ill and con hundreds of people out of their money. Eventually, Esme can’t take it anymore. She and her boyfriend murder her mother, and the film chronicles the entire story from its dark beginnings to its tragic end.
