Doctor Who Season 12 premiered with a major reveal at the very end of the episode, catching fans off guard. But if you paid attention, there were signs telling you who it was.

Well, that was unexpected. I don’t think anyone anticipated the Doctor Who Season 12 premiere to end the way it did. Even fans who had guessed of this certain character’s return in the new season didn’t expect it to happen right away.

Obviously, this post does contain spoilers about the premiere, specifically about who appears in the premiere. We’re not going to blatantly spoil it for those who haven’t seen the episode yet! So, if you haven’t watched it, you may want to back out of the post right now.

Alright Whovians! Here we go. It’s time to talk about…..

…..the Master!

Sacha Dhawan is the new Master. Initially appearing as Agent O, a loyal ally, it was a reveal that has taken the fandom completely off guard and especially the Doctor.Looking back on the episode however, there were plenty of clues hidden in plain sight that Agent O was in fact the Master.

Below are the clues spotted so far, if you happened to spot any not listed make sure you let every Whovian know by dropping a comment at the very end of this post.

The house was bigger on the inside

When we enter Agent O’s house in the Outback for the very first time it appears remarkably bigger on the inside than it does on the outside. Now, at first glance that could be because we just didn’t quite get a good look at the outside. Knowing what we know now, though, it’s pretty clear that they were inside a Tardis all this time.

The tech was clearly out of this world

Speaking of the house showing signs that it was a Tardis. There was some serious amount of tech inside there, especially in the center with all the computers. Kinda like the center console in a Tardis wouldn’t you say? Also, that force field circling the house keeping all manner of alien beings out. What does the Doctor always say about the Tardis? Nothing can get in? Well, it’s a force field that does that, just like the one surrounding Agent O’s house.

The obsessive research

Moving away from the Tardis Outback House now and onto Sacha Dhawan, and the first clue he shows is when he is talking to Graham about his “shelf” that is all about the Doctor. It did give off some mild obsession vibes and the Master has always had an obsession with the Doctor so it’s not a huge surprise to see him have a shelf full of research. While telling Graham about the Doctor he also had a slight manic look in his eye. Something that was instantly dismissed, but looking back, it’s something that makes you realize it’s the Master sitting next to them all, enjoying himself at how so easily it is to deceive them all.

The coded fish image

This clue doesn’t directly point to Sacha Dhawan being the Master, but it should have been a massive red flag that Agent O was in league with the alien race attempting to take over the universe when it was revealed Agent O and the invading aliens use the same hidden message technique.

They got so far

Was anyone else starting to wonder how the Doctor and fam got so far without getting caught? Both Yaz and Ryan easily managed to pose as a fake journalist and photograph and infiltrate Daniel Bartons’ company. Both were also casually given invites to his birthday bash. Nobody was shot during the high-speed motorcycle chase. Everyone somehow went undetected opening a big airport hanger door that was filled with people, etc. Why was this possible? Well, it’s obvious now. The Master wanted them on that plane, so he allowed them to breeze past with zero resistance.

It’s Sacha Dhawan

Sacha Dhawan is not a small-time actor. Featuring in a wide variety of recurring roles including, Iron Fist, Mr. Selfridge, In The Club, and the upcoming Dracula mini series. It was a surprise to see him appear in the Doctor Who Season 12 premiere and know very little about his role. For such a well-known actor you wold have thought they would have used his him for some of the PR in the run up to the premiere. Whereas In fact, if you look back, he is barely in any promo shots, previews, etc. We all know why now. They wanted to keep his role a secret, but looking back, he was definitely the biggest clue of all.
