Will there be a second season of Messiah on Netflix?

Messiah has brought a lot of mystery to Netflix, will there be a second season after that crazy season 1 finale?
Messiah on Netflix premiered Jan. 1, so if you are still catching up, please note there are spoilers ahead for the first season, including the season 1 finale. Watch all episodes first before you read on.
Netflix’s latest series stars Mehdi Dehbi and Michelle Monaghan. It follows a man (Dehbi) that is called by his followers Al-Masih, or Messiah. Not everyone is convinced he is on Earth for good intentions, though, and on the case is CIA officer Eva Geller (Monaghan). Is this the true Second Coming, something more sinister, or a total fake?
The first season of Messiah gives us many clues and even gives us whiplash as we go back and forth believing in Al-Masih and not trusting him. The finale leaves audiences with a cliffhanger and the possibility that another supernatural force is at play. Is Jibril someone more important than we assumed? How did he survive that blast?

With the way things ended, it’s almost a safe bet that there will be a second season of Messiah. But, unfortunately, a cliffhanger is no longer a safe sign of a renewal. Need I remind everyone about Santa Clarita Diet? Talk about one of the most heartbreaking cancellations of 2019!

If the numbers are there for Netflix, meaning if enough people are watching it, the streaming giant will surely renew it. But since it has only been a couple of days since it premiered on Netflix, it’ll be at least another week before we hear any news about it. We’ll be sure to keep you posted!
If it is renewed, it’ll be about a year before we see it. Expect an early 2021 debut date.
