8. Outlaw King

Original Release Date: November 9, 2018

Box Office: Like Malevolent, Outlaw King was a Netflix film, although it did initially premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie had a massive $120 million budget.

Critical Acclaim: Despite its large budget, the movie failed to leave a huge mark on critics. It received a respectable 62% on Rotten Tomatoes. The visual effects and fight scenes were praised but critics found the storyline somewhat scattered.

About the Role: Florence was nominated for Best Actress by the BAFTA Scotland Award for her role as Elizabeth de Burgh, based on the real historical figure.

Simply the Best: Outlaw King told the true story of the 14th-century Scottish king, Robert the Bruce. Elizabeth was his second wife and the queen consort to Robert. Unfortunately, Florence’s role isn’t as large and layered as it could have been, but she did what she could with the material and was cited by many as an extra-bright spot in the film.

The film follows the tale of Robert the Bruce after he is exiled and then recruits a band of outlaws to help him try and take back his throne. Aside from Florence, the movie also starred Chris Pine, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Billy Howle, Sam Spruell, Tony Curran, Callan Mulvey, and James Cosmo.
