The next season of American Horror Story is quickly becoming a reality, and a sneak peek is catnip for fans waiting for a new season to premiere.

Ryan Murphy, co-creator of the incomparable FX horror series American Horror Story, released a haunting poster on his Instagram that may reveal next season’s setting and/or theme. Is the unveiling informative or creative misdirection?

As AHS fans know very well by now, Murphy is a fan of releasing information in a very convoluted and confusing manner. Let’s break down what we do know and the new information.

The cast is going to be amazing.

First things first, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are back. Thank God. They are critical to the consistent nostalgia that carries American Horror Story during the lulls. On top of that, Macaulay Culkin is going to make a much-anticipated debut. His acting chops and fan familiarity could make for a very interesting addition. Adding in other mainstays like Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Adina Porter, Angelica Ross, and Lily Rabe means the season is almost guaranteed to be incredible.

The big reveal on Instagram is fairly amazing. Check out the post, below:

Based upon the quick look, we know this upcoming season includes a beach? And a cliff? Perhaps even zombie hands? Of course, if those are the hands of a zombie, how in the world are they climbing a cliff?

The dreariness is definitely AHS M.O., but it could be anything to be honest. The one clue provided, however, is this blurb from Murphy: “Things are beginning to wash up on shore.”

Does that mean zombies? Dead bodies? Disease? Then again, that could mean something like mermaids. If so, please, please can one of them be named Ariel?

Perhaps it’s not the people but the location that takes center stage? One of the great things about this series is how it bounces from character-based, time-based, and location-based themes. If this is a theme-based season, then we could be looking at a deserted island with survivors fighting for their respective lives!
