Like everything, the trommel is frozen in the winter months. We all deal with frozen pipes and vehicles at some point. But for most of us, it’s just a minor inconvenience. For Dave Turin and his crew, it could mean their livelihoods.

The trommel needs running water to work, but that’s not all that possible when the pipes are frozen. While they seem to deal with that situation relatively quickly, there’s another problem they’re going to have to fix. This is a little more delicate. If anything breaks, they’re done for the season before it’s even begun.
What do they need it for? What’s the gold mining mission for the episode? They’re heading to Montana’s Birdseye mine. It’s one of the most infamous mines in the area, but Montana wants to make this as challenging as possible.
