When Calls the Heart: With Elizabeth ready to love again, will Nathan or Lucas win her heart?

The love triangle is heating up on When Calls the Heart with both Lucas and Nathan finally taking first steps towards winning Elizabeth’s heart.

It’s been almost two years since Elizabeth Thornton (and When Calls the Heart fans) said goodbye to Constable Jack Thornton. Losing her husband devastated Elizabeth, and she couldn’t think about taking the next step, let alone moving forward. After giving birth to baby Jack, she focused her attention on raising her son, but something has changed in Hope Valley.

In Jack’s final letter to Elizabeth, he had asked her to open her heart to love again one day. Though she had difficulty admitting the truth, finally, when confronted by friend, Rosemary Coulter, Elizabeth admitted that her heart was once again open. She was ready for love again, but with two men vying for her attention, she has a big choice to make.

Constable Nathan Grant had some pretty big shoes to fill when he took over the position as Hope Valley’s Mountie. At first, the town didn’t welcome him as they were still hurting from the loss of Mountie Jack, but over the last two seasons, he has become a part of the town and friends with Elizabeth.

Saloon owner Lucas Bryant came into town under suspicious circumstances, and he still hasn’t fully earned the trust of the entire town. With questions still lingering about his life before Hope Valley, he is definitely the most mysterious of the two men wanting Elizabeth’s attention.

While some fans think it would be difficult for Elizabeth to fall in love with another Mountie and even believe she shouldn’t, Elizabeth has shown a particular interest in Nathan. She seeks him out, asks him where he’s going, and even flirts with him in a simple, shy kind of way. Though she has befriended Lucas, his past put her in a precarious situation before that almost cost her life. That alone is enough for some fans to root for Nathan as Elizabeth’s next suitor.

The latest episode of When Calls the Heart has both men gifting Elizabeth with flowers, but it’s doubtful fans will know her choice until the end of the season or close to it. Either choice is bound to cause some dissonance with fans as #TeamNathan and #TeamLucas are strongly opposed.
