4. Kaia/Dark Kaia

I’m going to go ahead and say it, I knew this was coming. Well, sort of. Supernatural made a specific point when we last saw Dark Kaia (or Not-Kaia, as Dean calls her). While there hasn’t been much room to revisit that storyline in the recent episodes, I just knew it was a little treat they still had in their genius pockets.

Not only did she make Dean a genuine promise that she’d kill him if he didn’t return her staff, but when it got broken, they pointedly discussed how mad she was going to be. Then we never hear anything else about it? I don’t think so.

Awesomely, this turned out to be way more cool than I anticipated. I’ve projected multiple theories about how we’d see Dark Kaia return to the Supernatural story, but what the came up with is certainly why they make the big bucks.

Dark Kaia also brought back another favorite, Jody Mills. I was super happy to see Kim Rhodes on the screen again and how cool was it to have her meet Castiel, literally for the first time? I honestly didn’t ever think about that. Of course it was important to have them meet as they share a deep attachment to Claire.

Dark Kaia took a dirty road to get to Sam and Dean, but it was great to see her quickly go down a notch and get honest. We got to see that she is just a normal human and we also found out who she was protecting all this time, trying to go back to her own world. Oh yes, actual Kaia!

Unfortunately, this became that golden opportunity for Jack. Dark Kaia made him understand, both with her pleading and her mind (he looked through her eyes and saw Kaia so scared), that he was the reason this was happening, and only he could save them both.

Obviously, he took that upon himself and did the thing. With the help of creepy reaper Merle, he opened the rift and they saved real Kaia! I was even sad to see Dark Kaia stand there and accept her fate as the destructive storm clouds destroyed her with the rest of her world.

The very best thing was that moment Kaia was hugging Jody and you could see her just let go. She was home, safe, she made it. Too bad she’s back to a world that’s on a collision course with the divine creator. At least she’s on her way back to see her Claire.

This was such a needed wrap, in my opinion. I’m so happy that we got a finalization for Dark Kaia, and that actual Kaia, Jody, and Claire got a super huge, amazing happy thing. It’s too bad Dark Kaia didn’t decide to come back with them, but what a hero and a trooper she turned out to be in the end. Bravo, Supernatural.
