When Calls the Heart: Lucas and Elizabeth’s date has Hearties more divided than ever

When Calls the Heart is stirring up emotions in fans who have strong opinions over who Elizabeth should fall in love with.

The most recent episode of When Calls the Heart, titled “Heart of a Writer,” saw Elizabeth accept Lucas’s invitation to see Virginia Woolf in person. The date, although she said it couldn’t be called that, consisted of an overnight stay in Union City. Whatever the evening was called, it has stirred up fans, called Hearties, of the series even more.

There is a divided contingent between the Hearties. One side wants a Lucas and Elizabeth romance, and the other wants a Nathan and Elizabeth romance. And neither side is afraid of being vocal with their opinions. In fact, many have taken to social media, including the series’ official Facebook group with over 79,000 members, to root for the guy they’re hoping for Elizabeth.

Though Lucas is charming and affluent, many fans are reminded of Charles, from the second season of When Calls the Heart. Charles was a friend of Elizabeth’s who wanted more and tried to come between her and Jack. In addition, Lucas still has a mysterious edge about him that has fans wondering if he’s being truthful about his life now.

Those who are behind Nathan believe Elizabeth should be with another Mountie. Her first love, Jack, was a Mountie, and the books upon which the show is loosely based, is about a Mountie and a schoolteacher. Even though the series has strayed far from how the books were written, fans are insistent that this part remains the same.

With only three episodes left in the season, we won’t have long to find out who the writers have decided best works with Elizabeth. Hopefully, the fans will get behind whoever becomes the romantic partner for her in the end.
