4 – Why Peaky Blinders fans may like Narcos

This American crime drama dives into the late 1980s in Colombia and Miami, Florida. Following the creation and rise of cocaine smuggling, the series exposes Pablo Escobar’s journey to becoming a billionaire through the drug trade, along with other king-pins and cartels the time. Narrating the series is American DEA Agent Steve Murphy, who quickly realizes he’s several steps behind the game.

While Narcos is stylized very differently, there are many common key components found within both stories. If you love drama series based on actual people and true events that are focused on gang crime, smuggling, betting, drug trafficking and politics, you likely enjoy watching this series.

Though there’s arguably more action and violence in Narcos than in Peaky Blinders, the way the main figures use smuggling creativity and political chess movies to work against one another is compelling.  You may not find yourself rooting for Pablo Escobar the way you cheered on Tommy Shelby, but the empire built from next to nothing over the course of the series is even more impressive.

Narcos has three seasons consisting of 10 episodes each, and the entire series is available to stream on Netflix. Once you get through these three seasons, however, there is a companion series with two additional seasons titled Narcos: Mexico, which is also available to stream on Netflix.
